Do I Need ISO Certification to Tender?

What are Systems

Systems are your company’s operating guidelines. They are the policies, procedures and processes that guide every element of your operation. In tendering, systems show the customer that you have a standardised operating methodology that supports consistency.

What are systems certifications?

ISO or AS/NZS certification is, simply put, a document that tells your customers that you have an operating system that complies with a set of standards recognised by international or industry bodies. The most common standards include ISO 9001 (Quality), ISO 14001 (Environment) and AS/NZS 4801 or ISO 45001 (WHS). There are also a variety of industry specific standards established by industry bodies to align to their unique challenges (for example, IS-BAO in aviation).

What are the benefits?

As a third party has confirmed your system’s compliance with set standards, systems certification improves our ability to prove your systems exist to the required standard. Often, if you maintain the required certification, you can skip large sections of returnable documentation. This creates efficiencies in the process and reduces your overall submission spend.

Can you win tenders without accreditation?

Yes, not having certification doesn’t preclude you from tendering. If you have systems and can prove your systems comply with the customer’s requirements, then you shouldn’t win or lose the contract on certification alone (unless it relates to an important industry benchmark or where certification is a mandatory requirement).
